In this post, we share straightforward tips and guidance to help you keep your child’s photos safe, while still enjoying and sharing those special moments. ## **Understanding the risks**  Sharing children’s images online or with AI platforms may seem harmless, but they can be **copied**, **misused**, or **shared** beyond your control. In some cases, these images could **appear on illegal or exploitative sites** ([Safer Internet UK](https://saferinternet.org.uk/guide-and-resource/managing-student-image-and-video-content?utm_source=chatgpt.com)). ### **How AI tools use images** **1. Training and learning** Many AI platforms use uploaded images to train their algorithms, meaning your photo could become part of datasets that teach AI to create or edit images. Even if deleted later, it may still influence new images that resemble the original. **2. Generating new images** Generative AI can create new images based on patterns or faces it has seen. If a child’s photo is included, the AI could generate misleading or inappropriate images involving that child. **3. Remember, once shared online, images can be difficult to fully remove. **Educate your child** Discuss online safety and why careful sharing matters. Encourage your child to tell you if they see or experience anything that makes them uncomfortable. **Legal considerations** The Online Safety Act 2023 strengthens protections for children online.
