From our beginnings in 1856 as Oxfordshire wigmakers, we saw the promise of an exciting new medium and began to hone our craft in photography. In the years since, a handful of quiet milestones have shaped who we are today.
Our Beginnings
We started out as Oxfordshire wigmakers who saw the promise of an exciting new medium, and it was here that we began to hone our craft in photography.
Royal Recognition
Just ten years later, we received our first royal recognition, from HRH Queen Victoria, a mark of trust that set the standard we have carried ever since.
A First in Colour
We introduced the first commercial service for colour school portraiture, changing the way schools kept their memories.
An Award for Design
Our staging design won the British Design Award, a breakthrough that continues to inform our pioneering spirit today.
We continue to undertake creative initiatives to complement and champion our clients, to this day.
What Guides Us Today
Every commission begins with the same intention that guided our earliest work: portraits made with patience, and finished to a standard worth keeping. We work closely with schools, universities and families across the country, treating each sitting as part of a much longer story, one meant to be looked at again in ten years, and in fifty.
Craftsmanship, trust and care sit behind everything we make. It is why our photographs are still being framed, archived and handed down, generations after they were taken.
